TECHNOLOGY AND SENSORS
The technology behind SENSE, piece by piece
A modular platform that installs on your own premises and connects sensors, cameras and actuators from any manufacturer. Here are the building blocks, the sensor types and the protocols.
WHY SENSE
Unlike any other IoT platform
SENSE is a modular platform installed on your own premises (usually a Raspberry Pi 5 or a Debian server) that brings together sensors, cameras and actuators from any manufacturer.
Offline-first
Works without internet: if the network goes down, it keeps measuring, storing data and alerting locally.
Your data stays home
No third-party cloud. The controller sits on your premises and the data is always yours.
Data and identity protected
Built for the GDPR: roles and per-sensor permissions, images only with a session, and people detection without facial recognition.
Modular and repairable
Standard hardware from several makers. If a part fails, only that part is replaced: lower cost and less e-waste.
Low cost, made to measure
Sized for each need, reusing the sensors you already have. The controller installs in under 30 minutes.
Maps on your website
Publish a live map of the nodes you choose and embed it in any web page.
ARCHITECTURE
Five building blocks
SENSE-core
The controller: collects, stores, analyses and displays all data. Dashboards, rules, alerts, AI and reports.
node-network
The communications layer: WiFi, Ethernet, LoRa/LoRaWAN, Meshtastic or 4G, depending on the site.
node-sensor
Low-cost ESP32-based field nodes, configured and flashed from the browser.
Sensors and actuators
Ambient, sound, presence, water, air and radio frequency; relays, lights, sirens and valves.
network-bridge
Brings cameras and devices on remote networks into SENSE, with no open ports and no internet exposure.
SENSOR TYPES
What you can connect to SENSE
These are the sensor and node types SENSE integrates today. Many share a single node, and a camera is just another sensor.
Ambient and weather
Temperature, humidity, pressure, light and UV.
Air quality
CO₂, particulates (PM2.5/PM10), VOC, CO and other gases.
Sound and noise
Sound level for ambience and nuisance (not regulatory metering).
Presence and occupancy
People counting with PIR, mmWave radar and distance (ToF), no cameras.
Cameras and vision
IP/ONVIF/RTSP, USB and CSI: motion, timelapse and detection of people, vehicles and animals.
Traffic and vehicles
Vehicle passage and counting with camera and radar.
Water
pH, turbidity, conductivity, level and flow for tanks and channels.
Soil and irrigation
Soil moisture, temperature and irrigation-valve control.
Fire risk
Smoke, temperature and humidity for forests and buildings.
Radio spectrum
SDR for radio presence and jammer detection.
Actuators
Relays, lights, sirens and valves triggered by rules.
Nodes and network
ESP32 nodes and gateways over WiFi, LoRa/LoRaWAN, Meshtastic, Ethernet or 4G.
WHAT'S INSIDE
The building blocks of sense-core
Sensors
Ambient, sound, presence, water, air and radio frequency.
Actuators
Relays, lights, sirens and valves that act on their own.
Cameras
IP, USB and CSI: motion, recording and timelapse. A camera is just another sensor.
Alerts
Threshold-based: email, Telegram, WhatsApp and SMS.
Visualisation
Dashboards, live maps, charts and PDF and Word reports in three languages.
AI models
48-hour forecasting, anomaly detection and computer vision, 100% on-site.
Your data, exportable
90-day default retention, JSON export and encrypted backups.
Integrations
REST API, MQTT, TAK / ATAK and guifi.net.
