Festa Major de Gràcia 2026: a street as a living lab
During the 2026 Festa Major de Gràcia, from 14 to 22 August, we ran a field pilot of SENSE on Carrer Fraternitat de Baix (Barcelona): measuring pedestrian flow and ambient conditions in the thick of the festival, with thousands of visitors a day and two rain spells. Around 200,000 steps were estimated over the week.
The deployment
- 5 nodes and 13 sensors at 3 points along the decorated street.
- A remote SENSE-core, over 2 km away from the sensors.
- Camera-free people counting, plus sound, temperature, humidity and light.
- Prepared and deployed in about two weeks.
Results
- Around 200,000 steps estimated over the festival week.
- 8 days of continuous operation, 24/7 and with no intervention.
- Not a single outage or damage through the two rain spells.
- TRL7 validated in a real deployment on the street.
From pilot to product
The pilot let us take SENSE onto the street under real conditions and, on the fly, spot and fix what needed tuning —sensor range, movement direction and the odd connectivity drop— before rolling it out for customers. Those improvements are now part of the product: every deployment ships more robust than the last.
